Dragon's Blood
Amazonian Sap of
Protection and Healing
Dragon’s Blood is the deep red sap of the Croton lechleri tree, revered by Indigenous Amazonian peoples for its powerful healing properties. Known as 'Sangre de Grado', it is both a traditional medicine and a spiritual protector.
Traditional Uses
For centuries, Dragon’s Blood has been used to: » Seal wounds and stop bleeding » Accelerate tissue regeneration for burns, ulcers, and lesions » Prevent infection in cuts and insect bites » Treat gastrointestinal issues such as ulcers, diarrhoea, and gastritis » Cleanse spiritual and energetic blockages during ritual Applied topically, it forms a quick-drying film that acts like a natural bandage. In ceremonial practices, it is used in energetic “limpieza” (cleansing) to dispel negative energy. Dragon’s Blood speeds up the healing of cuts and infections. It has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, thus serving as a first-aid treatment for insect bites, acne, burns, and haemorrhoids. Its healing quality is thought to be due to the high content of the alkaloid taspine, and its antiviral properties are attributed to the presence of the antiviral compound SP-303. Indigenous peoples also use it as an anti-inflammatory to treat stomach ulcers, chronic gastritis, cirrhosis of the liver and internal injuries. They say it repairs the gastrointestinal mucosa through its alkalinizing quality. Normally one uses it by dissolving three drops in water three times a day. Dragon’s Blood is considered a sacred ally. A guardian plant in many Amazonian indigenous traditions, it is used in rituals for: » Protection and purification » Cleansing space or aura when dried and burnt as incense
